Welcome to the course BLC 304/05 Procurement Management! I am Loo Saw Khuan, the Course Coordinator for this course. If you wish to know more about me, please refer to my profile in WawasanLearn. Why not write to me about yourself, as I would like to get to know you as well. You will find BLC 304/05 interesting as this course is aimed at providing you with procurement knowledge and skills in business organisations. This would include structures, processes, technologies, specifications, strategies, contracts and outsourcing to support organisations in pursuance of competitive advantage in the global market.
Have you ever imagined how procurement contributes to the success of an organisation? How procurement functions relate to other functional areas? How does procurement utilise technologies and practice in a globalised world in order to achieve excellence in material pricing, delivery and quality?
This course is designed to help you identify the changing role of procurement in an organisation. In addition, the course emphasises procurement as an important component in the total supply chain management and explains how it relates to other components.
The course is expected to provide a strong foundation for those specialising in procurement or other functions of supply chain management. From time to time, I will post further material in the WawasanLearn. It is crucial for you to use WawasanLearn to interact and share knowledge with your tutor, course mates and me.
Your tutor will guide you through the five units in this course. You are required to study the textbook and course material before attending the tutorials so that you will be able to optimise the tutorial sessions. You are also expected to complete all the activities and self-tests in the course material and reflect on what you have learned so that you can have in-depth understanding of the course.
Please bear in mind that you are not alone in your endeavour. Feel free to contact your tutor, the regional office staff or me, should you have difficulty in this course. I wish you all the best in your studies!
